Occupational safety and health

We operate our business under our occupational health and safety policy and basic philosophy, which states that "ensuring safety takes precedence over all activities based on the principle of respect for human beings, and that health is a foundation of our corporate activities."

Occupational health and safety management

Our goal is to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses among our workers and to provide safe and healthy workplaces, both physically and mentally. To this end, we have obtained and are utilizing the ISO 45001:2018 certification for occupational health and safety management systems and are making continuous improvements through the PDCA cycle. We also identify legal and other requirements for occupational health and safety, comply with them, and evaluate the results for appropriate improvements.

Emergency response training

We systematically conduct drills to prepare for emergencies, fires, and major earthquakes at our plants. Simulating emergencies such as a fire or an earthquake at our plant, we regularly conduct emergency drills in cooperation with local fire departments and police departments to assess our emergency response and address any identified shortcomings.

Promoting disaster prevention activities and safety awareness

KY (hazard prediction) activities

We designated July as the awareness promotion month and monitor near-misses from all departments annually. The safety and health promotion committee at each plant analyzes and follows up on reported near-misses to reduce potential risks related to safety and health. In FY2023, 654 near-misses were reported across our domestic sites. We share near-misses, particularly with those involving the removal of hazardous sources and highly effective preventive measures, along with their countermeasures, throughout our company to enhance our sensitivity to detecting hazardous sources.

Promotion of individual KY (hazard prediction)

Each employee sets their own KY goals to reaffirm their safety awareness, enhancing our overall KY practices.

Safety patrols

On-site safety patrols are regularly carried out by the department responsible for safety promotion at each business site. In addition, safety patrols are also conducted by the labor union and the president. Conducting patrols from various perspectives allows us to uncover hazardous sources broadly, confirm safety, and provide guidance for improvement.

Employment and promotion

Prohibition of discrimination

We respect domestic and foreign laws and regulations, social rules, local communities, and cultures and customs in foreign countries, and act with common sense. We will not act in a manner that is detrimental to our company. In addition, we will strictly ensure the confidentiality of personal information, will not engage in unfair discrimination or sexual harassment, and will strive to create safe and healthy work environments. With regard to the employment of people with disabilities, we have established "Toei Service Co., Ltd." as a special subsidiary to expand the employment of people with disabilities and the elderly. We have a system in place that allows employees who are aged 60 or over that wish to continue to work after the mandatory retirement of age 60 to continue working until they turn 65.

Payment of appropriate wages

We comply with all applicable laws and regulations regarding employee compensation (including minimum wages, overtime pay, holiday pay, and any other legally required benefits or deductions from wages).

Labor-management relations

We have established a labor-management council to maintain and improve working conditions through amicable negotiations with the FUJIKURA COMPOSITES labor union to ensure the sound development of our business and discuss matters concerning standards for wages and other working conditions, personnel standards, and other matters deemed necessary by our company and the union. We have signed a labor agreement to establish appropriate labor-management relations and fair labor practices, aiming to foster the company’s growth and maintain and improve the working conditions of its union members. The agreement stipulates that the company will ensure union members’ freedom to engage in legitimate union activities and will not treat them unfavorably on this basis, and that a labor-management council must be established and regularly convened to allow the company and the union to negotiate on an equal footing. We actively collaborate with the union to maintain and improve sound labor-management relations by adopting the union shop system, reporting management status and exchanging opinions on the workplace environment at labor-management council meetings, among other initiatives.
